IT'S HERE AND NOW - No.1 - APRIL 14 th 1973

It's Here & Now first published in April 1973.

It was a typical Glam Rock magazine, full of coloured pin-ups of all the latest stars of the day, Nearly everyweek David Cassidy and Donny Osmond/The Osmonds was featured in same way or another.

It really didn't have much news about what was going on in the Music World, it's questions to the stars was usually what is your favourite colour etc, but that didn't stop me as a teen buying it for the Slade and T.Rex pictures inside.

It was published weekly and it merged with Music Star another Glam Rock Magazine either December 1973 or January 1974.

I'm not 100% sure how many issues were published but, But I think it could have been around 37 - 40.

Here is a few selected pages from a number of issues I have.

Alice Cooper

You could say It's Here & Now was a Glamed up version of Disco 45, it had quite a few lyrics in it every week.

Miki Anthony released a number of singles but the only one to chart was called "If it wasn't for the reason that I loved you" released on Bell 3rd February 1973 reaching No.28.

Cliff Richard

David Bruce Cassidy (born April 12, 1950) He is best known for his role as Shirley Jone's eldest son, Keith Partridge, in the 1970s Musical sitcom The Partridge Family from 1970 to 1974 (ironically, Jones is Cassidy's stepmother in real life.) He enjoyed a successful pop career in the 1970s, and still performs today.

Issue 1 had this free Song Book inside.

Issue 2 had a free giant fold-out Donny Osmond poster inside.

Slade the best Rock band in the world nothing more to say.

The nephews of crooner Andy Williams - they were born in 1960,in 1974 they appeared on "The Partridge Family Show" They released a number of Singles but only one charted "I don't know why(I just do) released 24th March 1973 and got to No.22 in the charts., the first album was called "Meet Andy & David Williams" released in 1973.

Marty Kristian (born Martin Vanags, 27th May 1947 in Leipzig Germany, and was a member of "The New Seekers".

The Sweet.

Ricki Wilde born 6th November 1961 brother of Kim Wilde, and son of the singer and actor Mary Wilde.At the age of eleven he released his first single in 1972, called "I Am An Astronaut". Subsequent singles were "Do It Again, a Little Bit Slower", "I Wanna Go to a Disco" and "Teen Wave".The singles were not successful in the UK, He had some hits in Scandinaiva and Spain.

Rick Springfield,Singer, actor. Born Richard Lewis Springthorpe, on August 23, 1949, in Sydney, Australia. The son of an Australian army officer, Springfield frequently moved throughout his childhood, living in both Australia and England. While in high school, he developed an affinity for music, began playing the guitar, and formed a band called the Jordy Boys. He went on to perform with the groups Rock House and Zoot before launching a solo singing career with the 1971 Australian hit "Speak to the Sky."

Chicory Tip from Maidstone Kent. comprising Peter Hewson (Vocals) Rick Foster (Guitar) Barry Mayger (Bass) Brian Shearer (Drums) and Rod Cloutt (guitar, Keyboards)They formed around 1969, and signed to CBS Records after a number of flops they had a massive hit called "Son of my father".

David Cassidy.

Gilbert O'Sullivan Born Raymond Edward O'Sullivan (born 1 December 1946, Waterford County Ireland,had loads of hits in the early 1970's. The first charted single was called "Nothing Rhymed" released on 28th November 1970 other hits were"Alone again(Natrually) Clair "Get Down"a total of 16 chart singles, and seven chart albums.

Carly (Elisabeth Simon) born June 25th 1945.

Neil Diamond is one of pop music's most enduring and successful singer-songwriters. As a successful pop music performer, Diamond scored a number of hits worldwide in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. As of 2001, he claimed worldwide record sales of 115 million records,, and as of 2002 he was ranked third, behind only Elton John and Barbra Streisand. on the list of the most successful adult contemporary artist.

Rockers HUMBLE PIE

New World Top picture released a number of records on RAK records in the early 1970's the first chart enrt was "Rose Garden released 27th February 1971 and got to No.15 in the charts.

DON McLEAN Bottom most famous composition, "American Pie" released 22nd January 1972 it only got to No.2, Vincent his second hit got to No.1 May 1972.

Roger (Harry)Daltrey CBE born 1st March 1944, songwriter, and actor, best known as the founder and lead singer of The Who. He has maintained a musical career as a solo artist and has also worked in the film industry, acting in a large number of Film Theatre and Television roles and also producing films.

Malcom Roberts born 31st March 1944 and died 7th February 2003) was a Ballad singer, who had threehit singles from 1967 to 1969.His first chart entry was called "Time alone will tell" released May 11th 1967 and got to No.45 in the chart.

SIMON TURNER the UK's answer to David Cassidy and Donny Osmond.Did a cover of David Bowie's "The Prettiest Star " in 1973.

Steven Randall "Randy" Jackson born October 29th 1960 in Gary Indiana, a member of the Jackson, but not a member of the Jackson 5, Nicknamed "Little Randy", he was the ninth out of ten Jackson children to be born (one was still born) and is the youngest son in the Jackson Family.

IT'S HERE & NOW No.12 JUNE 30th 1973

Born Michael Anthony Orlando Cassavitis to a Greek father and a Puerto Rican mother, he was raised in Manhattan.
Tony Orlando's musical career started with The Five Gents, a doo- wop group he formed. His first success came when he recorded the hits "Bless you" and Halfway To Paradise in 1961. After becoming general manager at Columbia Records, he was tempted back to a recording career when he was asked to record a demo record of Candida. The label liked the demo so much that Tony's performance was released, under the band name "Dawn" (named after a record executive's daughter). After Orlando discovered that there were six touring groups using that name, Dawn became Dawn featuring Tony Orlando (which changed to Tony Orlando and Dawn in 1974).

Keith "Cheggers" Chegwin born 17th January 1957 in Bootle, As well as was appearing in Cheggers Plays Pop, and Multi - Colourd Swap Shop Pop he made a lot of films with the Children’s Film Foundation. He released a number of singles on the PYE record label in the early 70's, and he later went on to form the band Kenny and altogether under his own name, he has had 15 record releases.

IT'S HERE & NOW No.13 JULY 7th 1973

Geordie the Original and first line-up included; Vic Malcolm (born Albert Victor Malcolm, 3rd December 1946 in Newcastle upon Tyne Lead Guitar Vocals, Tom Hill Bass guitar, Brian Gibson Drums and Brian Johnson Lead Vocals, who later went on to join the Austrialian Hard Rock band, AC/DC
Geordie released their debut album, Hope You Like It, in 1973 on Regal Zonophone and Red Bus Records. Geordie had several top ten hits and had numerous appearances on TV including Top of the Pops. Geordie split up in 1978.

Jermaine LaJaune Jackson or Muhammad Abdul Azizborn December 11th 1954, Jermaine began a successful solo career concurrent to his tenure in The Jackson 5, and had a hit with the 1972 Shep and the Limelites cover "Daddy's Home". When The Jacson 5 left Motown, Jermaine left the group and stayed at Motown, as he was married to Hazel Gordy, the daughter of Motown founder Berry Gordy.
"Let's get Serious" 12" was the 1000 single I ever bought.

Peter(Kenneth)Frampton (born 22 April 1950 in Bechenham Kent, best known today for his solo work in the mid-1970s and as one of the original members of the band Humble pie. His solo album Frampton Comes Alive! is one of the best selling live albums of all time.

Peter Hope-Evans born 28th September 1947 Brecon Powys Wales Harmonia and Jews Harp and mouthbow player.
Medicine Head formed in Stafford 1968, and came to prominence when championed by influential DJ John Peel, who signed them to his Dandelion Record Label. "And the"(Pictures in the sky was a cracking record as well as "One and One is One released on Polydor in 1973.

Peter Oliver a member of "The New Seekers" he joined in June 1973 until 1974.

Barry Blue born Barry Ian Green, 4th December 1950 London, is a Pop singer Producer/Songwriter. He is best known for his hit songs, "Dancin' (on a Saturday Night)" (1973) which he co-wrote with Lynsey De Paul and "Do You Wanna Dance" (1973).He signed to Bell Records in the early 1970s and had five hit singles, including "School Love" (1974), but by the end of the decade his popularity had declined. His final Top 40 hit in the UK Singles Chart was in October 1974, with "Hot Shot", another song co-penned with Lynsey De Paul climbed to Number 23.

Sally Thomsett born April 3rd 1950 in Sussex England,She is mainly remembered for two roles. The first was in the 1970 film The Railway Children for which she received a BAFTA award nomination for Best Promising Newcomer. She played the part of Phyllis, an 11 year old girl, when she was aged 20. The second was Jo in the Comedy TV series Man about the House(1973-1976).

Jan-Michael Vincent born July 15th 1944 an American actor most well-known for his role as helicopter pilot Stringfellow Hawke on the 1980s U.S. television series Airwolff (1984–1986), which continues to enjoy a large cult fanbase. Vincent had an extensive television and film career that began in the late 1960s and lasted until the early 2000s.

Although I can't see the date on this copy,The cover say's Happy birthday Donny, his Birthday is December 9th so I'm putting 2 & 2 together and saying this is issue No.35.

The above is the last cover I have of "It's Here & Now " it only lasted just over 9 months it was a brilliant Glam rock magazine for a teenager like me at the time.It merged with Music Star another Glam Rock Magazine either December 1973 or January 1974 I can't be sure. This cover is dated January 28th 1973 so between 15th December 1973 and Jaunury 21st 1974 it ended.

On the cover of Flexipop it says "Great new track from Blondie plus two songs from Mystery bands, those two bands were -

SNUKY TATE - Tate was a San Francisco punk scene dude, but "Snuky Tate" also served as the band name on his amazing "Who Cares" EP [Blackmouth, 1979] which features the brutal, much bootlegged "Stage Speech." The band on the single backing Tate was pretty much the same lineup as The Mutants. Tate later made more dance oriented stuff, and Reggae.

THE BRATTLES - Was a band of prepubescent punk rockers ages 8 to 12 ( Werner Petrikat's, 12 Guitar,Dagin, 8 drums - Jason, 9 vox - Emerson, 9 bass - Branch, 10 keys,)They opened for the Clash twice, shared a rehearsal room with the New York Dolls and we were produced by Chris Stein of Blondie
